[CHARACTER INFO]
CHARACTER NAME: Rose Wilson, aka Ravager
SERIES: DC Comics
CHRONOLOGY: During the events of "Fresh Hell," her mini from 2009/10
CLASS: Anti-hero, definitely in the gray
BACKGROUND:
Rose Wilson has had a hard time of it, and though not all of it was out of her hands, she's done a number on her own.
She's the daughter of notorious mercenary Slade Wilson, aka Deathstroke, the Terminator. Her mother was Sweet Lili, a former Cambodian princess, allegedly killed during a conflict with Rose's Uncle, Wade DeFarge, when Wade was out and about trying to kill off Slade's family/loved ones.
Rose was placed in the custody of the Titans for a brief time, but not a full-fledged member. She suffered a coma after a training accident with member Damage, where facets of her precognitive metahuman ability manifested until she woke. After teaming up with the Titans to help rescue Cyborg, Roy Harper offers Rose the chance to nanny/babysit his daughter, Lian. She accepts for a little while, then drops off the radar for a bit, adopted by a family called the Madisons.
Wade DeFarge shows up again and kills the shit out of the Madisons because Rose can't have nice things. During an attempted rescue by the Teen Titans, Deathstroke shows up, gasses everyone, and Rose wakes up in one of his...lair-things. Wade is there, bound and captured. Slade offers to train her, on the condition she take care of her crazy-ass uncle. She does so, gladly, putting him to the sword.
Her first mission takes her up against the Church of Brother Blood, the Teen Titans, and her long-lost half-brother, Jericho. After hesitating to kill the latter, Rose stabs her own eye out to prove her loyalty to her father. Because this family is healthy like that. She soon gets her butt kicked by Cass Cain, which leads to Deathstroke putting her under Nightwing's tutelage (he's busy trying to convince everyone he's evil or something at this point, so that's...why that even is a thing). Slade puts a carved piece of Kryptonite into Rose's empty socket (this family is healthy like that) and tells her and Nightwing to go kill Superman. That obviously doesn't happen, and after Rose finds out daddy did that to her with little care for her, she got pissed and ditched him.
Oh yeah, also Slade was drugging Rose into being crazy and compliant the whole time. This family is healthy like that.
Next time Rose shows up (One Year Later™), she's with the Teen Titans. "Relax, I'm a good girl now," she tells Cyborg (GRINNING LIKE A FREAK). Nightwing pushed her on them, so yeah. Trying to make her a legit good girl. Let's see how THAT goes...
Oh, well, you know. She gets naked and hides up in Tim's room, for one. That goes over well. Her and Wonder Girl butt heads over and over, Kid Devil crushes on her, everyone kind of linefaces more often than not. Then Rose and Joey fly out to NYC to chill with Nightwing and Rose gets to meet her big brother for the first time and it's actually kind of cute.
Too bad daddy up and kidnapped a bunch of former Teen Titans, brianwashed them, and began pitting them against everyone. Rose and Joe get their butts whooped by daddy and he gets away.
Other comic book shenanigans ensue for a few issues but yeah tl;dr Rose is a hot, bloodthirsty troublemaker always straying too far into the gray moral area while everyone else is like PLEASE DON'T KILL THE PEOPLE WE FIGHT/KEEP YOUR CLOTHES ON.
Then the Terror Titans happened. Rose managed to stall an attack on the Titans Tower long enough for Marvin and Wendy (why do these characters exist in DCU canon) to escape, and then it blows up, and everyone thinks she's dead. I don't know why people think that in this universe, but whatever. Rose is totally not dead and was actually tracking down the mastermind behind the attack – Clock King. He offers her a spot on his Terror Titans, and she says screw that noise.
Then Rose overhears some of the Titans talking about what a loose cannon she is and she gets mad and goes back to join the Terror Titans. Yep. Clock King gets her hopped up on adrenaline inhalers, which help enhance her precog abilities. She joins the Dark Side tournament, pitting teen heroes against each other, and kicks a lot of butt, but refuses to kill anyone!! She beats the tar out of the other Terror Titans, frees Static Shock from the tournament, and then...goes and does something. W/e she's not in a few issues.
Then there was a horrible little arc called Deathtrap which ends with Joey's eyes carved out and gone crazy and Rose just going WHAT THE EVERLOVING FUCK THIS IS ALL MY DAD'S FAULT I'M SURE. She ditches the Teen Titans again and then she goes to try and kill him. This doesn't go as planned, he steals a helicopter and flees, and she cries a bit and then just flips a table or two and goes off to steal more adrenaline drugs.
Fresh Hell begins with her breaking into a California pharmacy for more drugs while her conscience nags her. She runs from the cops, zonks out, and wakes up in a blizzard. Just say no, guys.
She winds up in a town in northern Canada that ~don't take kindly to strangers~. She gets in a bar fight, kicks some ass, and then starts hacking up blood and wakes up on an operating table. The doctor tells her she needs to stop jacking herself up with drugs or she'll eventually die, and she's like welp. Some guy running a bar above the doctor's...room...(Canada???)...named Will offers her a cabin to stay in and she's like uh ok. As she's settling down for the night, a buttload of guys show up and shoot the hell out of the cabin and blow it up. She totally expected this and kicked some ass.
Then there's a snowmobile sequence where she almost escapes, but then one of the guys pulls out a bazooka and blasts her into the icy water.
That's where she'll be pulled from because her life is nothing if not awesome.
PERSONALITY:
Like Eddie Bloomberg's said, Rose is a tough nut to crack. She's got a lot going on in her head, and not all of it is her.
She has a moral code, but it doesn't mesh well with the standard superhero ideals, which is what causes all the friction she has whenever she's trying to work with the goodie-goodies. There's a part of her that just really enjoys violence, makes her feel comfortable and in the zone, and she has a hard time controlling her urge to kill when someone does something that really sets her off.
Her daddy issues make it all worse. She doesn't want to be like him, yet those traits are so potent and visited and revisited over and over, that she's starting to feel like it's a futile thing. She blames him for how screwed up she is, but she's coming to a point where she's ready to accept any future screw-ups as her own problem, and that if anyone wants to call her good or evil, let 'em, because she can't do anything about it.
She can be rude and crude, and is a lot looser with her sexuality than the others in the Titans. She's randomly made out with a fan of the team (an ~autograph he'll never forget~), because...because she can. She's aware of her assets, let's say.
She's quick to judge, as she expects herself to be quickly judged. Things said about her are taken personally, even when she appears to blow them off. It all hurts, it's all built up, and it's made her pricklier than ever. She can get past it, it seems, to work for a common goal, but those sorts of things never go away. Not really.
Her sense of humor is pretty dark and full of snark and sarcasm, apt to make digs on other people or hit a little below the belt in ways. Yet she takes it easy on folks she's warmed up to; it's about as close to tender as she'll get nowadays. Real, genuine affection isn't something she can openly do, and so she keeps that sort of thing at arm's length, glosses it over in snark or putting her flaws first. Her past crushes went nowhere – why should anything she pursues now be any different, right? She's too messed up for nice things.
Piss her off and experience hell. She's tortured and killed before, even in a state of mixed conscience. Even the people she's fond of can get hurt in the wake of her troubles – another reason to keep them at a distance, or just straight up ditch them. It's for their own good.
POWER:
Rose has limited precognition, readily triggered when experiencing an adrenaline rush. She can see seconds into the future to avoid attacks and make the best counter.
Due to drug shenanigans a la daddy, she also has a chemically altered physiology, which allows her to endure extreme elements, run hella fast (she said she can clock 32 mph in a flat run), and be hella stronger than the average person. Tied into her training with Nightwing and Slade, she's a lean, mean, killing/fighting machine.
